"THC poisoning is not possible when industrial hemp is used," he said in his press release regarding the happening in Bio park Vrbje near Žalec on Saturday.
The participants of the Bio park event were supposedly poisoned while testing products made of industrial hemp, also those brought by the participants themselves. Unofficially the poisoning was caused by tea, and cookies.
As explained by Brvar, poisoning is most frequently caused by consumption of cookies, beverages, or hashish oil – due to much higher content of THC compared to a joint, and because people tend to simply consume the product as they would the regular one.
The intensity of a cookie can be 100 times higher
One joint usually contains approximately ten milligrams of THC, while with one cookie even 1000 milligrams can be consumed. The additional problems are caused also by the fact that THC from food is absorbed much more slowly, and it takes longer for the symptoms of poisoning to occur.
High concentration in hashish oil
"Hashish oil is produced illegally, and the concentration within these concoctions is unknown. The samples usually contain approximately 50% of THC. The ordinary marijuana contains let's say from one to three percent of THC. Therefore poisoning with food, e.g. cookies, is much more serious. As people consume larger quantities, the symptoms of poisoning can be very severe," Brvar emphasized.
In Slovenia no deaths caused by THC
In Slovenia no casualties have been recorded due to THC poisoning, but Brvar calls attention to the case from the USA, where a child died after consuming lethal dose of cookies.
