According to Novo Mesto police, medical personnel from Črnomelj, Metlika, and Novo Mesto treated sixteen people on the scene of the fire and in the hospital, two of them for burns, while the others surfed mainly from the inhalation of poisonous fumes.

Crime scene investigators and forensics experts from the National Forensic Laboratory are continuing their examination of the fire scene and are analyzing the evidence. According to Radio Slovenia reporter Jože Žura, several employees of the home who had taken part in the evacuation of residents have been treated for smoke inhalation. All the employees have been released from the hospital.

A female resident is still hospitalized; she has asthma but does not have life-threatening injuries. Yesterday afternoon, the residents of the home were placed in different rooms. They were also provided with additional medical care overnight, but most of the residents did not experience major trauma in the fire.

Labor Minister Anja Kopač Mrak has toured the affected wing of the Črnomelj Retirement Home. She said that the origin of the fire is still being investigated. The blaze caused substantial fire that needs to be repaired as soon as possible; the state will assist in the effort.
