The first in Slovenia to open the season this year was the Vogel ski resort; it opened on November 22, and on Thursday the regular operation started. During this autumn a large quantity of snow fell at Vogel, more than one metre in total. But two strong thaws reduced the thickness of the snow cover, leaving 25 to 40 centimetres of sufficiently hardened and frozen snow.
Until the next abundant snowfall the Vogel ski resort sells ski passes at a special price, as until further notice only the lower part of the ski resort will be operating, i.e. chairlifts Orlove Glave and Brunarica. The opening of the season at Vogel is scheduled for today and tomorrow, accompanied by entertainment with music. The gondola will operate each full hour until 2 a.m., and during the weekend the mountain hut Merjasec will be open as well.
Next week official start at Krvavec
The longed-for winter season will start at Krvavec as well; Luža ski lift and Tiha dolina ski lift with four seats will operate, along with three ski tracks and the Gospinca children's carpet. On Saturday Njivice will open as well, or Vrh Krvavca ski lift with six seats, depending on the conditions for producing artificial snow, and Kriška planina to allow access, plus two additional tracks. The ski passes will be sold at presale prices, while the official opening of the season with accompanying events is planned for the next weekend.
A temporary solution for Mariborsko Pohorje was found in the nick of time, although the ruin of the Pohorje Sport Centre threatened the same sad fate as befel Kanin. The season at Mariborsko Phorje will start on Saturday as well. For the beginning the devices will start operating at Areško Pohorje, where 20 centimetres of natural snow on the tracks have already been covered by artificial snow. They will start both Ruška proga and Areška pot trails, and most likely also the less demanding school trail. As only a part of the devices will be operating for now, from Saturday till Monday ski passes will be sold at promotional prices, and transport by buses will be organized between Bellevue and Areh. The sale of season tickets has increased again, mostly due to the view of snow-covered top of Pohorje. 1,500 season tickets have been sold for now.
Pohorje will become alive...
Saturday will be the first day of skiing at Rogla as well. Ski lifts Uniorček 1, Košuta and Planja ski lift with four seats will be operating. The Zlodejevo adrenalin sledging track will start operating as well, every day between noon and 6 p.m, while cross-country trails at Rogla have not been prepared yet. At ski resorts in the western, Koroška part of Pohorje, the intensive preparations are going on. At Kope the season will start in the evening, with night skiing at Pungart. The ski trail has been intensively covered with artificial snow, presently there is up to 30 centimetres of natural and artificial snow on the trail.
... and Kranjska Gora not yet
In Kranjska Gora a great effort is being made in order to make possible the start of the skiing season. Artificial snow is being producing, but its quantity is too small to allow skiing this weekend. If the weather conditions allow, Mala Mojca ski lift will open on Saturday, but since the temperatures are too high a firm promise is not possible.
