"Heavy goods vehicles, driving from Celje towards Kranj, can use the northern Ljubljana bypass - the H3 expressway - as it’s their shortest route," the DARS motorway company explained for MMC. Foto: Google Maps

We already informed that a new traffic regime for heavy goods vehicles on the northern Ljubljana bypass (the H3) went into effect on Sunday night. The new regime imposes a ban on all heavy goods vehicles on that section between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

"Heavy good vehicles traveling during the night on the A1 highway between the Štajerska region and the Primorska (coastal) region are only allowed to use the southern and eastern Ljubljana bypasses," the Slovenian Motorway Company DARS wrote in its press release. Residents of Ljubjlana’s Nove Jarše, Bežigrad and Šiška boroughs were delighted with the news, as they will now be able to sleep better during the nights.

However, it does not mean that no trucks will ever pass under their windows again.

DARS: "The measure only affects trucks in transit"
Truck drivers, arriving from the Štajerska region highway section, which is part of the A1 highway, will see traffic sings before the Zadobrova intersection just before Ljubljana. The signs indicate that traffic headed towards Kranj, Villach, northern Ljubljana and the Moste Industrial zone are to turn right. At the same time heavy good vehicles traveling in the direction of Koper must continue driving straight forward, meaning it is forbidden for them to use the northern bypass.

The traffic ban on the northern bypass does not apply to those trucks which have business to take care of in industrial zones or company premises, for example loading and unloading cargo. In the case of being stopped by traffic control, a driver must show travel orders which prove the need to use the northern H3 bypass and not other roads.

"The measure is only intended for heavy good vehicles in transit," DARS additionally explained.

First night passes without any violations
The police can fine all those who violate the new traffic rule - trucks who enter the H3 expressway from the direction of Štajerska, continue their journey along the northern bypass, and then also on the western bypass (Koseze-Kozarje), without stopping for any services at the industrial zones. DARS says that travel times needed to pass two certain points on the bypass can be measured. The same applies for those trucks traveling in the opposite direction - from the Primorska region towards the Štajerska region. If those trucks use the H3 during the night, they too will be violating the new traffic regime.
