Unaffiliated MP Ivan Vogrin proposed Dušan Radonjič, a full professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business in Maribor, for PM-designate.
Apart from Ivan Vogrin's signature, the initiative has so far also been backed by MP Borut Ambrožič.
Vogrin maintains that a sufficient number of MPs are backing his proposal, however he declined to reveal the names of his supporters, to protect them from "media scavengers".
Signed it out of patriotism
Unaffiliated MP Borut Ambrožič confirmed that he did back the proposal with his signature. He considers his action "a patriotic act in order to avoid the holding of early elections, which have been ill advised by eminent law experts, among them also by Rajko Pirnat".
Möderndorfer's group won't support Radonjič
"No" was the answer of Matija Sevšek, from the cabinet of the outgoing PM, to MMC's question on whether the unaffiliated MPs headed by Jani Moderndorfer would support Dušan Radonjič for PM-designate. Outgoing PM Bratušek is forming her own party with the help of Moderndorfer's unaffiliated deputy group.
Four Positive Slovenia MPs former students of Radonjič
After a meeting with Mr. Radonjič, the head of Positive Slovenia's parliamentary group, Jožef Kavtičnik, said it was an "interesting meeting between former students and their professor". Four members of his group are former students of Radonjić. Kavtičnik is of opinion that it would be right for other parliamentary groups to also hear our Radonjič, as he has great experience in the field of economy, has worked abroad, and understands the problems.
Radonjič hasn't convinced Positive Slovenia
Replying whether Radonjić convinced his group, Kavtičnik said: "I didn't say that." He was surprised though that there was no other candidate ready to assume the important position. That's why he seriously considered the proposal. Radonjič has worked in the field of economy, understands many of the problems at hand and has interesting views.
Positive Slovenia won't tip the scale
"We haven't decided anything yet. I don't expect anyone to put their signature under the proposal this evening. Positive Slovenia won't be the party that will decide or not decide. Responsibility lies with the whole parliament," said Kavtičnik. His prediction is that the party council will discuss the issue on Wednesday's session. When exactly the session will be held has not yet been defined.
After meeting the Positive Slovenia deputy group Dušan Radonjič told the press that he would very much like to present himself to the other deputy groups as well.
SD not taking part in naming a PM-designate
The head of SD's parliamentary group, Matjaž Han, told journalists that his party wasn't taking part in naming a new PM-designate. "We won't contribute any signatures. If he becomes an official candidate, we are ready to accept it and tell him that he won't get any votes from us," said Han. Otherwise the party has no remarks regarding Radonjič's credentials.
