The Ministry of Defence recently abandoned the idea of setting-up a reception and registration centre at Vražji Kamen in the Municipality of Črnomelj. The Ministry of Interior is therefore looking at other locations. Officials are visiting locations also offered by private tenderers.
The police will first assess the suitability of a location and the conditions for its use. It will then make a general assessment, inform the local community, and try find a suitable solution. The ministry assures that it realizes the importance of having good communication with the local community. That is why ministry officials are in constant contact with local representatives in this stage of the process.
The refugee centre will be put up only if the police become unable to manage the situation. According to the ministry, the centre will be of a temporary and closed character, and will constantly be under police surveillance. Individuals will be held at the centre for up to 72 hours, which is how long the procedure for their return to Croatia would take.
