In March 2018, the police strike committee informed the employees that the continuation of the strike after Cerar's resignation to form a new government, is meaningless. After the appointment of the new government, they sent an appeal to the prime minister and the minister of the interior to identify themselves with police demands.
However, there are certain legal restrictions concerning the police strike, and that's why police officers will let people off with a warning on minor offences instead of giving penalty notices. There is not going to be many police officers in public places and they won't perform any preventive tasks. They will intervene only when people's safety and property is at stake.
The police trade union expects the government to join the social dialogue as soon as possible and to discuss how to fulfill its obligation under the stakeholder agreements in the same way as before the freezing of industrial actions.
Reason for the strike was one-sided government intervention
The Police strike committee recalled that the reason for the announcement of the strike was one-sided government intervention on the rights, which were acquired through a strike agreement from 2016, with last year's signing of the annex to the collective agreement for the State Aviation Administration. The government, however, did not fulfill some other provisions of the beforementioned strike agreement.
In February, when the strike began, the police officers explained that the strike started because they estimated that the government devaluated the police profession with its measures. The trade union then announced that they want the police work to be valued according to the officers' tasks, powers, responsibilities, and danger they are exposed to daily.
