The current President of the Republic, Borut Pahor, began his current mandate on December 23, 2012. In accordance with electoral law, the President of the National Assembly must schedule the next election no more than 135 and no fewer than 75 days before the end of the current mandate. At least 60 and no more than 90 days must pass before the day when the election is scheduled and election day.

According to the Cabinet of the President of the National Assembly, Brglez will announce the day on which all election-related deadlines will come into effect.

If that announcement comes on the day when the decision is signed and is then published in the Official Gazette, the election could take place between October 15 and November 5. If the National Assembly President chooses a later date to schedule the election, the vote could take place on a later date.

The presidential election must take place at least 15 days before the current president’s mandate ends. A second-round vote, if needed, can take place no later than 21 days after the first-round vote.
