The tenth edition of the festival remains faithful to the festival's original focus, offering films from exotic and far away countries. This year's festival is full of novelties. For the first time it will also be present in the capital, Ljubljana, with organized transport. Organizers have also decided to make friends with the youngest audience.
This is what Lorena Pavlič, the director of the Kino Otok festival, had to say: "Most of all it's about discovering new worlds and the latest movie gossip. This year we're especially focusing on India. With India we're marking some of the historical film events as part of the 100th anniversary of Indian film. At the same time we're also discovering a new region, Galicia".
Authors will be talking to the public not only about their films, but also about the surroundings they come from and the themes they cover. Indian director Karun, who is returning to Izola after 10 years, will be available for a chat with the public in a leisure atmosphere. Many more directors are still on their way to Izola.
"After ten years I can see a festival which is still developing and has its own internal strength. When I watch someone fight and make the extra effort, it's like winning World War III in the field of culture and creativity," said director Shari N. Karun.
The crowd is the best guarantee for the festival. Last year the Submarine program for kids set sail.
The stars are also in favour of Izola, as forecasts predict uninterrupted summer temperatures, great for outdoor cinema… all until Sunday. The movie marathon will also be available to visitors in Ljubljana. Festival films will be screened at Kinodvor.
