The news hasn’t generated much euphoria among the restaurant’s wait staff; quite the contrary, they seem more stressed out than ever. While being ranked among the world’s best restaurants is a great honour, the accolade has put further pressure on the staff. Hiša Franko is also the only restaurant among the world’s top 50 led by a woman.

The whole craze started in May of 2016 when Ana Roš was featured in Netflix’s “Chef’s Table”. In 2017, Roš was named the World’s Best Female Chef, and since then things just haven't been the same. The media are still all over her.

When you live and work in a small town like Kobarid, you can’t help but be genuinely happy. Being mentioned in the same breath as these fine-dining giants … I’ve read the World’s Top 50 Restaurants list. Honestly, it would be just wrong if they had ranked us any higher. It would be too fast and too big a leap forward. I’m very critical of others, but even more critical of myself. I know that we’ll have to work very hard to get up the ranking or even keep the ranking. I think being ranked 48th is great because it's an opportunity for us to advance. If we were ranked 30th, then we would just drop next year, but this gives us the chance to climb the rankings. We’re also up 21 places compared to last year, which is the third or fourth highest jump overall. How could we not be happy?” Roš told MMC.
