Mayor Horvat explained the decision to purchase the nine year old bright red bus of old-timer image, familiar with the Dutch roads: "A panoramic bus must be distinctive, conspicuous. It must advertise itself, and it must be suitable for panoramic purposes, which a standard bus is not."
According to Blaž Veber, the director of the Infrasport company which will manage the bus, its basic duty is to provide for the tourists an easy access to tourist points in all the villages from Mojstrana to Rateče.
"We should be aware that there is no public transport to a number of tourist points. A concrete example: it is very difficult for a visitor who comes to Kranjska Gora and has no means of transportation of his own to go to the Peričnik waterfall, or to visit Zelence or Planica," he explained.
Unfortunately, a number of sights higher up the mountains which are attractive for tourists (e.g. the Russian Chapel, the Pagan Girl, and Vršič) are not among the "hop on – hop off" bus stops. As it seems, the engine of the bus suitable for the flat plains of the Netherlands is simply not strong enough for such a demanding climb.
