In the last decade, the number of motorcyclists has doubled, the head of the Trenta's TNP (Triglav National Park) information centre Marko Pretner explains: "While the number of cars remains the same - approximately 50,000 per year, the number of motorcyclists has increased from 10,000 to 20,000 since 2005, when a counter was set at the Vršič road. We do not hate bikers, but we must do something to limit the number of those few bikes who are causing the problems. The Alpe Adria Trail and the Soča Trail lead quite close to the road, and consequently the road became very busy, and dangerous. The valleys are very narrow, and the noise reverberates." The tourist workers admit that the bikers, this record season in the Bovec area making approximately one third of all the visitors, are good guests, but the noise they make is still disturbing.
Last year there were 30 traffic accident in Trenta in the Koritnica valley, 13 of those involving bikers. Two ended tragically, and two with grievous bodily harm. Therefore, in April they addressed to the directorate their suggestions for traffic calming. They suggest reduction of speed limits at certain parts of the road, warning signs for limiting traffic noise, and special limitations for bikers.
After three months, the directorate for infrastructure responded to the representatives of the local community, promising to examine their proposals for limitations at the precisely defined parts of the road, but added that "terrain is very varied, and therefore it is impossible to place traffic signs for every separate bend or straight part". They also wrote that this year a pilot project of measures for calming the speed of motorcyclists on the Podpeč-Rakitna road are being introduced, and since positive effects are expected, the same would be introduced on other national roads with similar problems. The inhabitants of Trenta are not completely satisfied with the answer; they intend to keep sending warnings, until a meeting in the field is organized, and suitable solutions found.
