Slovenes in Italy see this as a historic day. They've been waiting 13 years for this to happen, ever since the passing of the Protection Act in 2011, which envisaged the return of real estates to the Slovene community.

The plan is to use the building for cultural events. It will also host a Slovene library. The Trgovski Dom was designed by the Slovene-born architect Max Fabiani.
