One of the highlights of this year’s festival will be an exhibition on Slovenia’s lynx, since the animal is also featured in the town’s coat of arms. Saturday will be exceptionally busy: The festival will showcase the best of local food and the finest crafts from the region’s artisans. According to Vlado Kostevc, the head of the Suha Krajina Tourism Association, Saturday’s festivities will also include a pot barley cook-off.
On Sunday, the 19th edition of the so-called Medieval Day will take place. The event will feature a medieval marketplace and host 20 performing groups from Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, and Slovakia. The festival will come to a close on Monday with an unveiling of a plaque commemorating the life of Rozalija Sršen, also known as Zalla Zarana. Zarana, the first Hollywood actor from Slovenia, was born in Žužemberk 120 years ago.
