It will be a return visit after Slovenia's president Borut Pahor officially visited Turkey in January last year. Turkey's president at that time was Abdullah Gül, while Erdogan was still PM. Erdogan was elected president in August last year.
First time in Slovenia three years ago
Erdogan already visited Slovenia as PM in May 2012. The two countries maintain frequent communication at the highest political level. As a fast-growing economy Turkey is one of the priority regions for the internationalization of Slovenia's economy. In March 2011 the two countries also signed a strategic partnership agreement.
Economic trade continues to grow despite the crisis
Turkey is already considered as a very important economic partner. In the year 2013 the trading of goods between the two countries, according to the Slovenia Partner (Izvozno oko) website, amounted to around 480 million euros. From January to July 2014 it amounted to 314 million euros.
In the last two years there has been a significant increase in Turkish exports to Slovenia. Slovenia's economy would also like to see more direct Turkish investments. As part of his visit last year in Istanbul, Slovenia's president Pahor also called on Turkey's business community to invest in Slovenia.
