The Forma viva sculpture symposium in Kostanjevica na Krki took up a different form this year, due to the event’s low financial support. On the final evening of the symposium organizers will present metal sculptures at local roundabouts, one entitled Pravljica (Fairy tale) by Jože Marinč, and the other Srečanje (Meeting) by Dušan Tršar.
Organizers have thus turned to local artists for cooperation – Marinč is a local fine artist, while Tršar occasionally resides in Kostanjevica na Krki. Due to their location the metal sculptures will deviate from the up-to-now consistent use of oak wood.
A symbolic link with the local way of life
Marinč came up with a timeless and never-to-be-finished artwork, entitled Pravljica, which he will modify and supplement himself. Once he dies he has indebted his descendants to continue the work. Bojan Božič, the head of the Kostanjevica gallery, wrote that in its combination of stainless steel and aluminium, the Pravljica sculpture is symbolically connected to the local way of life. He added that at the same time it represents the artist's reaction to the idyllic environments of the nearby Gorjanci, Krakovo forest and Krka.
A reaction to the surrounding's impulses
Tršar poured his Srečanje sculpture in bronze. The sculpture completes, at both a symbolic and physical level, his frequent presence in the Kostanjevica surroundings. It could also be understood as the artist's reaction to the surrounding's impulses and a research into the diverse field of sculptures, also wrote Božič.
