As part of the preparations for the traditional spring exhibition, which will take place from 25 April to 3 May, the arboretum has invited the press to present a few new surprises for this year’s visitors.
Arboretum’s president Aleš Ocepek also emphasized that although the damage from last year’s massive ice storm is still being removed and repaired, the work will not disturb the visitors.
Naturally, most of the new surprises will greet visitors on flower beds and meadows, which the gardeners are diligently working on. In addition to 2 million tulips, 200,000 daffodils have been newly planted in the park this year. New flower beds with mixed combinations have been designed, hosting 100,000 biennial plants, 10,000 hyacinths, 30,000 snowy mespiluses as well as beds with 5,000 ornamental onions.
Another special attraction of this year is rhododendrons, which are celebrating their 50-year anniversary of their first planting in the arboretum. In the upper English park, 350 rhododendrons that grow to about a meter and a half in height will be planted for this occasion. They are expected to bloom in May and should be quite a spectacular sight for the visitors.
