Vujović, a 54-year-old handball expert from Montenegro, will replace Boris Denič, who consensually parted with the association three weeks ago.
Vujović accepted the new role with a smile on his face. "Money was not the motive behind my decision to become Slovenia's national team coach. Whenever I watched Slovenia play, I was always jealous of the coaches who had players like Zorman, Škof, Gajić, Žvižej ... I always thought Slovenia could win a medal, and then something always went wrong in the key moments. I thought I could achieve more with those players. I am proud to have been awarded the opportunity, considering all the great coaches Slovenia has to offer. I will do my best to validate this trust. I will not promise anything, but I will do all in my power for Slovenia to be respected and maybe even win a medal at one of the big tournaments," said Vujovič.
Debut against the Slovaks
Vujovič's first test seems perfect for getting to know the national team. In the first half of June Slovenia will play two matches, against Slovakia (10.06.) and Latvia (13.06.). Slovenia needs only one more win to qualify for the European Championships, to be held in January 2016 in Poland.
