Due to broken power lines because of the weight of ice around 20 thousand households in the regions of Notranjska and Kočevsko were left powerless and some parts of Notranjska even without water supply. Altogether around 88.000 households or 10 percent of Slovenian population are without power.
Heavy rainfall has also raised the water level of rivers in south-western Slovenia. Slovenian Prime Minister Alenka Bratušek and defence minister Roman Jakič will visit the cities of Postojna and Pivka today, to get first-hand information about the situation. Armed forces were called in today to supply power generators to help the communities that had been without power since Thursday midnight. The heavy rain and snowfall will continue until tomorrow.
