It's celebrated annually on the 5th of October and aims to support the work of teachers and ensure quality education. This year in Slovenia the day is observed under the title: For Quality Public Education! For a Better World!
Unions warn that further budget cuts in the education system have to stop, in order to maintain its quality. Branimir Štrukelj from the public sector union said that in the last six years the share of GDP invested in education has fallen under the OECD average.
47.000 teachers and educators work in Slovenia. World Teacher's Day has been observed internationally since 1994.
