Cherries bring quite a lot of profit from tourism as well. Every year a number of events organized in Brda for that occasion bring a lot of tourists from Slovenia and from the neighboring countries. Eight large events, accompanied by a row of events on smaller scale - all concentrating around local cherries - every year lure more than thirty thousand visitors to the local hills.

Cherries are plentiful this year!
The fruit growers from Goriška brda promise enough cherries for everybody; ripe red cherries grow on 200 hectares, in average 8 tons per hectare. This year the crop is extremely rich. Radovan Jelina, head of the Association of fruit growers from Goriška brda, made a promise: "In the previous years also Italian and Spanish cherries were sold at our Cherry Festival, but this year this won't happen. We have protected the cherry from Goriška brda, and only our cherries will be sold at the stands. The prices range from three to six euros, but for the festival a uniform price will be set."
Besides fresh cherries you will be able to eat your fill of warm starters, main courses, and desserts - based on cherries, naturally. Caterers from Goriška brda have prepared a number of dishes with this sweet fruit for the festival. You will be able to taste interesting combinations: prosciutto and grits with cherries, barley groats with cherries, skillfully made pouches containing white polenta, characteristic of Brda, with cherries and decorated with flambe cherries. And there is more… to be tasted during the month of June, the month of cherries, in the restaurants located in Goriška brda. Good (cherry) appetite!
