The event was first organised last year and encountered a very positive response. Therefore, the Domžale municipality, which had given the initiative, decided to repeat the Kitch’n at the Market and organise an all-day programme composed of interesting accompanying events.

At this season’s first Kitch’n, nearly 100 zither players from all parts of Slovenia responded to the organisers’ invitation to come and entertain the people and visitors of Domžale.

Zithers used to be a popular folk instrument and have been re-gaining popularity. There are 28 music schools in Slovenia that teach zither players, both young and older enthusiasts. The zither is also being increasingly used for more demanding classical music. One of the leading musicians in this area is Peter Napret, who also hosted the event and told a number of curiosities about zithers to visitors.

Boža Bauer, also a player and the initiator of the zither festival in Domžale, explains that through such concerts and presentations the players would also like to encourage the young to develop an interest in this instrument.
