According to information provided by Črnomelj Municipality, damage to housing exceeded 6 million euros, farming infrastructure suffered almost four million euros damage, industrial areas 6.5 million euros. Public institutions sustained more than 1.2 million euros damage. Nine cultural heritage buildings suffered damage amounting to 100,000 euros, damage to crops is estimated at 330,000 euros.
The cost of relief reached 330,000 euros. Hail caused damage to more than 1,000 different buildings and numerous vehicles. Fortunately, no one was injured by the hail. In the hardest hit areas, hailstones as big as 12cm fell.
State aid needed
Hail fell for approximately 15 minutes and caused damage in 24 communities in Črnomelj Municipality and in a district of the town of Črnomelj itself. A belt approximately 10km long and 4km wide damaged villages around Črnomelj, from Zapudje to Petrova vas.
Črnomelj Mayor Mojca Čemas Stjepanovič pointed out that state aid as well as a revision of the Municipality's budget will be needed to mitigate the consequences of the hailstorm.
