Slovenians recycle 34 percent of all of their waste, which is more than the EU's average. But on the other hand Slovenes also drive 58 percent of all waste to landfill. For comparison, in Europe 37 percent of waste ends in a landfill, and 25 percent is recycled.

In the public company Snaga they are convinced that the reason for such a large share of landfilled waste is also, that Slovenia doesn’t has a low use of waste for energy. With the use of waste destructors the share of landfilled waste could be greatly reduced, if not eliminated. Snaga highlights Germany and Belgium as examples of best practice, as those states virtually no longer deposit waste and use a volume of 37 (Germany) and 42 percent (Belgium) for energy.
