In 1956, Swiss-American astronomer Robert Julius Trumpler dies. In 1930 he observed distant open clusters of stars he discovered the absorption (extinction) of light or interstellar extinction of light, which led to the present day knowledge of the true shape of our galaxy.
In 2003 while shopping Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindh was mortally wounded in an attempt on her life. She died a day later.
