In 1867 French poet, critic and aesthete Charles Baudelaire dies. He is known for his poetry collection Flowers of Evil.

In 1949 actor Richard Gere is born.

In 1997 in Paris, British Princess Diana dies in an automobile accident. Her friend Dody Al Fayed and the chauffeur also die in the accident.
