6th of December is St. Nicholas Day, which is the common name for the historical figure of Saint Nicholas of Myra. Nicholas lived in the fourth century in the Byzantine province of Lycia, the present Turkey, and secretly gave gifts to people. He became the model for Santa Claus.
Maribor is first mentioned as a town in medieval documents. The first document is perceived as 1164. At the end of 12th century a defence tower was built on Piramida hill. In 1209 it was first mentioned as a market town.
