President Borut Pahor tried to find out from the deputy groups whether the head of the SDS, Janez Janša, has sufficient support to form a new government. However, as the party positions are not yet fully clear, on the initiative of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Matej Tonin, and at the request of the head of the LMŠ deputy group, Brane Golubović, Pahor has decided to hold another round of talks before he announces his decision on Friday.
If it turns out again by Friday that there is still no clear position from the parties, Pahor already announced that he would offer the first chance to form a new government to the relative winner of the election, the head of the SDS Democrats, Janez Janša.
A coalition led by Šarec
Meanwhile, the party presidents holding coalition talks with Marjan Šarec are already working on a coalition agreement. According to Šarec, on the table is the division of ministries, but the presidents of the five parties are secretive about which ministries each party would like to have.
There is optimism that a new coalition led by Šarec is possible, but the parties add that there is still a long way to go.
Parliament establishes first three working bodies
The National Assembly held its first extraordinary session today and established three temporary working bodies – a foreign policy committee to deal with the arbitration lawsuit against Croatia, an EU affairs committee in order for the parliament to be more engaged in the decision-making processes at an EU level, and a joint committee for dealing with other urgent matters, for example with the amendments to the Medical Practitioners Act.
