The Slovenian men’s handball team did not play its best against the Czechs. For most of the match Czech goakeeper Tomaš Mrkva (18 saves) frustrated Slovenia’s players with his excellent goalkeeping and some impossible saves. In the first half the Slovenians were not aggressive enough and lacked ideas when they were on the attack. As the match progressed Slovenia’s game improved and it even managed to get in the lead in the beginning of the second half. A few minutes before the end Slovenia even led by two goals. But the Czechs quickly equalized and made sure that there would be no winning team that evening.

In order to advance to the semi-finals Slovenia had to beat the Czech Republic and then hope for a favourable outcome in the other two matches. The other two conditions were that Denmark beat Macedonia and that Spain and Germany draw. However, after drawing with the Czechs, Slovenia is on its way home and won’t even be playing the match for 5th place.
