The 24th Winter Olympic Games in Beijing official closed on Sunday and they will be remembered as very successful for Slovenia. Slovenia won seven Winter Olympic medals in Beijing, which is Slovenia’s second best medal tally at the Winter Olympics. Two of them were gold medals, three silver and two bronze. The winter event The Snow castles of King Matjaž has taken place place at Mitnek underneath Peca each year in January since 1993. It’s central event is usually the competition of teams in building snow castles and snow sculptures. Given the current situation, the municipality Črna na Koroškem this year again decided that the annual event is to be held a bit differently than it has been in the past.
Spotlight - European Men's Handball Championship starts 13th January
Slovenia's second largest city Maribor will launch its first international school next year. Classes will be in English and available for those between the age of 3 and 19. The school is intended for children of foreign diplomats and representatives of businesses and other organisations, and children of Slovenian citizens residing or planning to reside abroad. City officials say the school will also help the further development of Maribor. Registration for pupils and applications for teachers are open until the end of January.
