The UN is launching a new flash appeal for humanitarian aid today for Palestinians. It hopes to raise 1.2 billion US dollars to help both Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The figure is a huge increase from the previous appeal it made in October, but the UN says it reflects the "increasingly desperate" situation on the ground. The funds will go towards supplying and restoring food, water, health, and shelter in the occupied regions. Photo: Reuters
Last month the EU said it would review the protection status of wolves. The EU Commission said the return of the wolf in Europe poses a "real danger" to livestock, tourism, and human life. Austria, Belgium, The Czech Republic, France, Germany and Italy are among the EU member states that have seen a dramatic increase in the number of livestock killed by wolves. Nobel Prizes were given out last week by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Nobel Assembly at the Karolinska Institute, and the Norwegian Nobel Committee. The Nobel prizes have been given out since 1901. It originally included five prizes: Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature and Peace. A sixth prize for achievements in the field of Economics was included in 1969.
On Monday, the 26th Festival of Slovenian Film kicked off in Portorož. It will feature 55 films in the competition section and four world premieres.

In Postojna the end of August and start of September are dedicated to the "Zmaj 'ma mlade" festival. It's made up of a wide range of events and aims to increase the cultural offer in Postojna at the end of summer. This will be the 27th edition of the festival, and this year it runs from the 29th of August until the 10th of September.
Panč was the first stand-up comedy festival in Slovenia, launched in 2008.
