The UN is launching a new flash appeal for humanitarian aid today for Palestinians. It hopes to raise 1.2 billion US dollars to help both Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The figure is a huge increase from the previous appeal it made in October, but the UN says it reflects the "increasingly desperate" situation on the ground. The funds will go towards supplying and restoring food, water, health, and shelter in the occupied regions.
