The interest in flights is enormous, and the cheapest return tickets at the price of 69 euros have been immediately sold out. Presently a flight to London and back can be booked at the price of 138 euros, or more. Starting with June 1st, Adria Airways will fly three times a week to Southend, the newest London airport.
As explained by Sara Slodej, who is the person in charge of public relations at Adria, most of the seats have been sold in Slovenia, and online. A smaller number of the tickets have been sold through booking, i.e. call centre, and a minimal part has been booked by agencies as well.
The coming days will give a better picture of the interest English tourist have in visiting Slovenia, as soon a campaign will start in the British capital. Promotional activities for their flights will be organized also at other foreign markets, with an emphasis on Croatia, Austria, and Hungary.
Adria announced that the flights from Maribor are assured until the end of September. Their decision on October flights from the Styria region capital will be based on summer flights occupancy, and will be made not later than in May. The planned number of passengers for this period was 10,000. The air carrier has not revealed the interim data yet, but it is believed that almost a half of the target number has been already reached.
No additional lines this year
No additional new lines from Maribor have been planned for this year, besides the regular flights to London, and charter flights to Zakinthos, Greece and Antalya, Turkey. They reconfirmed their intention to add new destinations next year, but at the moment they are not in a position to be more specific. The decision about flights to new airports, both from Brnik and from Maribor, will be made by the end of May.
In the meantime the Maribor Airport is already making the steps which would enable them to realize their ambitious goals – an increase in traffic in the coming years. For that purpose they are already negotiating with potential tenants of business premises at the airport, including a duty-free shop. The process should be concluded before the beginning of the summer season. Last year 18,000 passengers were transported through charter connections; this year the planed number is 35,000. They hope the number of passengers will reach half a million in five to seven years.
