The level of help depends on the damage, on people's social-economic status, insurance and other guaranteed or already allocated sources of help, says Karitas. Their aid is constantly being coordinated with the municipality, social work centres and other humanitarian organisations in Črnomelj. Until now Karitas has raised approximately 181,000 euros of financial help.

"The damage to houses and buildings is huge and simply calls for more solidarity. The wider consequences of the storm, like ruined crops, water damaged furnishings, flooring and insulation etc. will only become evident over time."

So far damage in the municipality has been assessed at over 20 million euros, but the final amount will only be known at the end of July.
