Sanja Vuzem from the National Institute of Public Health said the child got the measles virus even though it was not in direct contact with the infected 38-year-old: "That means they were not in the same room together, but at different times. That shows how contagious measles can be."
The baby, which was not yet vaccinated at the time, immediately received a shot but was already infected. The child has been treated at the UKC Maribor medical centre since Saturday. At the end of last week, epidemiologists carried out all the necessary preventive measures to stop the spreading of the virus.
There is still a chance that some of the people who were in contact with the 38-year-old get the virus, and that is until the end of the month. In the case of the one-year-old, the incubation period, when the virus can spread, is extended until mid-June.
